This thread is similar to darkSIDEechoes' poll thread where he mentioned five games that aren't in the spotlight so much. Eventually, that got me wanting to just see what FPS are in development that aren't getting any real coverage. Let me tell you, there are a LOT.Alliance: The Silent War (added courtesy of dbowman) TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/alliancethesilentwar/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Highlights - I heard a bit about this one a long time ago. From what I remember reading, you can pick from various different factions over various different time periods, even if they didn't exist during the same time. So, you could be the SEALs and face something like the German Schutzstaffel (just pulling that out of the air, there, might not be a faction in the game). Sounds like an awesome concept, if it's done right.Borderlands Oct-Dec, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/borderlands/index.html
Highlights - Only real highlight so far is the 4-player coop.Conflict: Denied Ops Feb 12, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/crossfires/index.html
Highlights - Looks pretty cool, has 2-player coop.Cryostasis TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/cryostasissleepofreason/index.html
Highlights - Looks iffy, kind of Doom 3-ish but lower quality, but it's still early in development, so we'll see.DUSK-12 Jan-Mar, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/dusk12/index.html
Highlights - Rather similar premise to Left 4 Dead, you can play as either the human or the zombie side, and mostly everyone has become zombies, but this game looks a little higher quality and less of a run-and-gun type game.Darkest of Days Jul-Sep, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/darkestofdays/index.html
Highlights - Environment in the screenshots looks compelling, but what really draws me to it is that it allegedly will ''have you travelling through time to some of the darkest days in the history of mankind.''Dead Island TBA 2008 (US %26 EU)/Apr 4, 2008 (Aus)
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/deadisland/index.html
Highlights - Looks like another zombie game, but it's in an island environment similar to Far Cry and Crysis. Could be an interesting spin. Gamespot's summary says ''zombies and monsters,'' so maybe there will be some other interesting foes. Also of note is that its genre is listed as ''horror action adventure.''Field Ops (added courtesy of iwilson1296) Jan 2, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/fieldops/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Highlights - FPS/RTS hybrid. Doesn't look like something I'd be really interested in, but others may be.Ground Branch (added courtesy of AdrianWerner) TBA?
http://www.blackfootstudios.com/forums/index.php?showforum=13
Highlights - Haven't looked into it much, looks like a tactical shooter. The Hunt TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/thehunt/index.html
Highlights - This actually doesn't look like much just from the screenshots. Not too sure about it. However, its summary is intriguing, nonetheless. ''In a futuristic society overrun with criminals, random citizens are sometimes marked for death by the government and the hunt for these citizens is televised.''Left 4 Dead Apr-Jun, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/left4dead/index.html
Highlights - Probably the most popular of the least popular, if you catch my drift. I'm not too sure about this one. Graphics aren't great, quality doesn't look like much... But it has 4-player coop, and run-and-gun games can be good if done right. Maybe I'll be surprised by this game.Legendary: The Box Apr-Jun, 2008 (US %26 EU)/Winter 2008 (Aus)
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/legendarythebox/index.html
Highlights - Hmm, looks like another attempt at trying to make a game inspired by Serious Sam. But will it be one of the very few that pulls it off well, or will it be one of the many pathetic wannabes that gets kicked to the curb? In any case, the screens look awesome.Mirror's Edge TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/mirrorsedge/index.html
Highlights - There is very little content released on this, but this little bit of info caught my interest:'' 'We want to change the way that players are able to move in first person, '(Owen O'Brien) said. 'No more restrictions, no more being blocked by simple barriers such as walls and fences. We want to enable the player to move like a real person, with the ability to run, jump, vault, and slide in a way that has never been seen before in a first-person game.' '' Hm. Okay, they've got my attention.Natural Selection 2 (added courtesy of AdrianWerner) TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/naturalselectionsource/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Highlights - Never really got into the Natural Selection mod of HL2, but I've heard of it, as I'm sure others have.Necrovision TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/adventure/necrovision/index.html
Highlights - The first WWI-era game I know of. Sounds like it's trying to play with the same premise as Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but somehow it sounds like it will be unique. I'm looking forward to this one.The Precursors (added courtesy of Tsunami23) End of 2007-Beginning of 2008
http://precursors-game.com/
Highlights - Not really sure what to make of this. I haven't read much on it yet, but I guess it's another kind of FPS/RTS hybrid. In any case, it looks like it might be neat.Savage 2 - A Tortured Soul (added courtesy of foxhound_fox) TBA
http://savage2.s2games.com/
Highlights - Yet another FPS/RTS hybrid. I think I've heard about this one before, as well as the original. Never looked into them much. The Scourge Project TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/thescourgeproject/index.html
Highlights - Now this looks cool. Uses the UE3, has four-player coop, and features some very unusual and unique monsters.Section 8 TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/section8/index.html
Highlights - Not much to it yet, but it's using UE3 and has some cool screenshots.Showdown: Scorpion Jan-Mar 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/showdownscorpion/index.html
Highlights - Story and setting sound interesting enough, screenshots look nice. They TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/they/index.html
Highlights - It mainly just looks kind of cool, but Gamespot describes it as a mystery shooter, which could be interesting. They Hunger: Lost Souls (added courtesy of nutcrackr) TBA
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/theyhungerlostsouls/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Highlights - Seems a little bit like a Left 4 Dead copycat, a game against zombies using the Source engine, but it looks interesting anyway.Turning Point: Fall of Liberty Feb 26, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/fallofliberty/index.html
Highlights - Takes place in a past that could have been instead of one that was. I like that idea. Could turn out to be a real gem, who knows?Turok Apr-Jun, 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/turok/index.html
Highlights - It's Turok, and it's back. 'Nough said.Warhound TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/warhound/index.html
Highlights - Another more popular game among the least popular. Graphics look pretty nice, environment looks cool.White Gold Apr-Jun 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/whitegoldwarinparadise/index.html
Highlights - Another nice island environment, but it looks a bit different from the usual Far Cry type of island (to me, at least). Mixes FPS and RPG like STALKER. Sounds like it has the right tools to be a great game.Zeno Clash (added courtesy of Tsunami23) TBA 2008
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/zenoclash/index.html?tag=result;title;0
Highlights - Its only coverage is four screenshots, but they're enough to tell this is one hell of a unique-looking game. Definitely on the bizarre side. Could be neat. All titles with ''(added courtesy of XYZ)'' after them were added in by edit as they were suggested to and accepted by me.Upcoming FPS games that no one really talks about
Nice list, add Serious Sam 3 to it if you can.Upcoming FPS games that no one really talks about
Well, I meant games that no one talks about or few care about. Serious Sam has gotten some rep as a series. The games I'm showing aren't from any series or anything, they're just new iterations of the FPS genre. Too many people tend to ignore these games, focusing all their attention on the franchises that already exist or the new ones that have the money to advertise all over the place.Besides, SS3 doesn't have a gamespace at Gamespot yet, it's still listed as Croteam's next anonymous project for some reason.
duke nukem forever, if its release lol
Yeah I should have figured that out. Anyway thanks for the list, I didn't know about some of these games.
Cryostasis looks really interesting.
Savage 2: A Tortured Soul.
A hybrid FPS/RTS.
There aren't a lot of things to talk about them since we hardly have any information about them
But no one even acknowledges them, even the ones with some more substantial info don't get much attention.
But no one even acknowledges them, even the ones with some more substantial info don't get much attention.
Well thats life for you,
Good list, very helpful.Suggestions for games to add:The PrecursorsThe CrossingZeno ClashInterstellar Marines
Nice list. We should have one for each genre. Are any of these games coming out in the first quarter of 2008?
Nice list. We should have one for each genre. Are any of these games coming out in the first quarter of 2008?
I know that Left 4 Dead is supposed to be coming out in the first quarter.
niiiiice
There aren't a lot of things to talk about them since we hardly have any information about them
Bingo! I just looked at most of the info...and there is barely any. Most of the higher profile games at least have a few interviews.
Thank you for reminding me about Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. I completely forgot about that game until I saw this list. I'm a bit interested in it.
This's a really good list! And these game I'll buy it too!
Thank you for reminding me about Turning Point: Fall of Liberty. I completely forgot about that game until I saw this list. I'm a bit interested in it.
I got that game on my track list, there are some news on that game every now and then
They Hunger Lost Souls

But no one even acknowledges them, even the ones with some more substantial info don't get much attention.
Well thats life for you,
Not if I have anything to say about it. :P That's the purpose of this thread, to show some games to people that they wouldn't even hear of otherwise.
Bingo! I just looked at most of the info...and there is barely any. Most of the higher profile games at least have a few interviews.
So? A few simple screenshots or even just an interesting game concept ought to be enough to at least make you go ''Hm, interesting. What the heck? I'll track it and see where it goes.'' You can always take it off your tracking list if it starts to look like something you don't care about. Thanks for the tip on Zeno Clash and They Hunger: Lost Souls, didn't know about them. I'll be sure to add them. I'd wait until there's a little more on The Precursors before adding it. I actually considered Project IM (Interstellar Marines), but there hasn't been any news at its gamespace for two years, so I decided not to add it. Same reason I didn't add the next Return to Castle Wolfenstein that's been listed for a while at Gamespot.
