Gears of War not working

i have no idea why it's doing this, but when i install gears of war (or try to) as soon as it's done decompressing the files, the installer minimizes (no way to close it or open it) and i get an error message saying ''please insert the disk labeled: Gears of War Disk'' and when i click ok, it does nothing. my dvd drive doesnt even start. I had downloaded a pirated copy to see if it would run well before i bought it and it ran fine. instead of re-installing it i just used my already installed game and my disk (removed the CD crack first) and played till ch. 4 until i decided i wanted the Editor. Epic (those people r so smart) made it so that you can only install the map editor at the same time as the game. uninstalled it and tried re-installing it with the disk. no luck. this piece of crap even gave me the BSOD (i had to re-format and re-install windows, Thanks Epic!). So after buying the software and having no luck, if i dont find an answer soon i'll have to re-download it (takes 4 flipping days) and use that to install it. I find it Disturbing that a pirated version of this game works flawlessly, yet the $50 retail game is capable of giving you the BSOD...Go figure. Anybody have any ideas?Gears of War not working

ugh. Epics forums are pointless. i've tried eading them but no one even answers. its all questions. It seems that no two people are having the exact same problem, so i dont know what is up. But seeing how it wont install on a brand new fresh install of Vista i dont really have any hope in this game. i'm really frustrated that epic seems to be ignoring it all, though. and the fact that i just wasted $50 on a non-refundable or tradeable product....
I got Gears of war some time ago , but i stopped playing because of the crashing and the bugs . Somebody better patch that game!

I also think there is this thing on Microsoft.com called 'hotfix' that fixes game issues like that, alot of people needed it for Hellgate london. I never looked for it since I'm using XP
I get the game_g4wlive.exe or whatever error..sucks
