no, you don't need any programs except an os (operating system). and if you're buying a pc, you probably don't want a lot of the junk they install anyhow, so you'll be deleting programs to make your pc more streamlined.What programs do I need to download?

operating systems is the main program that controls everything, windows is the most common but there is mac os, linux to name a few others. All they do is basically interact with your hardware and software to make it work right. Also manage your files and other basic things. Most games require windows XP and some Windows VistaWith those you are pretty much ready to play games, as they will have a default set of drivers needed to interact with the hardware for best results.However newer games need better PC hardware to run, the most important component is the graphics card, followed by the cpu and ram.
