new pc gamer here

the only pc games ive played ar battle for middle earth 2 and CoD2. im not much of a pc gamer at all because i dont have a suped up pc. I cant even run battle for middle earth at very high graphics. but, my dad wants to get a new comp anyway for his work, so whats a good comp that can run good graphics and isnt too expensive?new pc gamer here

build it. much cheaper that way. if you don't want to build it, then buy one from ibuypower.com; i've never used them, but many people that have seem happy to have done so. also, dell (and alienware) has cheaper gaming computers compared to the likes of voodoopc or falcon. but building is cheapest. you can go online and find many instructional websites or you can ask a friend who has built one to help you out. or maybe your dad knows how to build one.

You should get a desktop with a ghz of 2.4 ghz or higer. Because these pc games lately have high specs. Take cyrsis for example it runs at 2.4 ghz or higher. Someone give this guy a good video card name. I don't know any. I only have a Ati 9800 pro on my desktop and 128 MB Nvidia 8400M GS. These are the only 2 video cards I run. One is ony my desktop and laptop. But I enjoy some of my old games can run. The witcher can run on my laptop I will tend to get that?

[/QUOTE] that's why get a friend to help? and it's his dad that's building it, not him? don't worry - i took his lack of experience into account, as evidenced by what i wrote. O_o and everyone needs to start sometime. there are great tutorials on the web. it's just a matter of following instructions, which i'm sure he or his dad can do.
Tell us your budget and we might be able to help better. Now people might recommend something that's not even good for your budget.
The General Rule of Thumb I've been following for PC Gamers is that ~US$1,000 is where you'll end up being... decent. Anything too much less than that and you'll probably end up with some issues. :S
Plan on spending between $500 and $1000, depending on what peripherals (monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers) you're planning on reusing.After that, head to www.cyberpowerinc.com My family has purchased from there, and they have the best prices for the parts. Their customer support is average, and their build and ship times are pretty good.I recommend you buy an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, at least 1 GB of RAM, and the new 8800 GT video card.

sorry i havent posted on here for a while but to the guy who says build one, i didnt even know you could build your own pc, and i dont think my dad knows either. and plus i just dont wanna take the time to do that. ok, so my price range is probably 900-1200 i guess, since i might have to get a new moniter as well. can anyone tell me some specific models that are good for that price range? oh and do you have to get a like 2500 dollar pc to run crysis well? thanks for your help guys.
Just go to the dell or gateway sites and costumize your own. They both have decent support and seem to be alot cheaper then alienware etc.
It really depends where you buy from. Like people have said, if you could build one then it would be a lot cheaper. Since, however, you can't then you need to start finding websites based in your country. I'm guessing you live in the US, so start looking for US sites. For a minimum you need a dual core processor, 2gb of ram and an 8800GT to play Crysis I think.

I ordered the PC in my Sig from Dell... Plays games fine (Except Crysis) for $800, INC. Monitor.
Here's my 2 cents.........I live in Canada hey and building a rig wasnt an option cause i know nothing about the guts of a computer so this is what i did........Granted its barely even entry level pc gaming but i can play Team Fortress 2 online on hight settings and thats pretty damn cool......I bought aHp 2.2 ghz Duo Core Computer from Future shop for 399.00then i replaced the integrated video card with a Nivida Geforce 8600gt (xxx) from Tiger Direct.com 120.00 came with Company of Heroes which is a great RTS game.I also added 2 gigs of ram for 50 dollars.Finally, i added a 22 inch LG monitor from Future shop for 230.00.Again, not the greatest rig but for the money i spent its able to play all the games out there(except Crysis, which i havent tried) and watching movies and general computer use is fantastic......and seriously, i was able to do the modifications myself with no problems at all.......snap in place, cant get much easier than that......
I've just upgraded to a pc with a vista o/s and i find most of my old games dont run im not that great when it come to pc's so its proberly something simple.. so anyone got any ideas:question:
yeah i got one of those but paid ?00 urs is a lot cheaper i dnt care i am well impressed.. for once i can walk into a games shop and grab any game without looking at the requierments well not every game i looked at one the other day and u needed 4ghz processor my comps going to be out of date in a couple dayz:(

2 Gigs DDR2 800MHz memory
At least an nvidia Geforce 8600GTS, ideally an 8800GT 512MB vid card
hard drivethats about all the key components you need to keep and eye out for. If it doesnt have anything like that, be skeptical.
