Well, I've been a console gamer pretty much all my life and only used my PC for MMOs.Do you think it's worth the transition? ATM, I have a 360 with a bunch of games. It's coming up to chrimbo and I'm faced with either getting a new high specced gaming PC or more 360 games.Bear in mind controlls/costs/upgrades/games everything.Overall I enjoy to play RTS, FPS, RPG and some platforming. Not a big fan of sports game. Enjoy some racing. What do you guys think?Console to PC?
fan of rts, fps, rpg? sounds like a pc gamer to me.Console to PC?
if those are the geners you really like, than the most likely a PC will suite you well....especially RTS's...since being a console only gamer, you have only had a glimpse of what RTS's can offer.

When I was younger a controller always seemed so much more... Accessible. I think, I'll use my 360 for racing games, sports (Bah, who am I kidding. I've had one sports game in my entire life) and any exclusives. Like mass effect ect.
true fps and rts are just better on pcs mostly due to controlls using a mouse is far better in my opinion and for other games that dont suit the pc u could always use a gamepad but seeing as u have a 360 u wouldn't really need to.

But my new build will be XP, will that be alright?

Alright awsome.Last question, this might just be me but, whenever I play on my 360 I can just sit back in the chair and relax while I play, but whenever I'm on my pc I tend to be hunched over and stuff. Will I eventualy get used to it or is pc gaming less relaxed.

They might be playable on consoles, but they are a compromise on the system.FPS? Well, that's a fanboy preference. I've been a FPS gamer on the PC since wolfenstein (as in, since that game came out) but I would not say that a console shooter designed to use the controller well is any better than a PC shooter designed to use the modern kb+mouse combo. Overall, of course, PC's have higher visual potential and modification potential.RPG. I can't think of any RPG that demands a console. Some RPGs simply cannot be played on consoles. Platforming? Well, that's not a controller issue, since I use literally the same controller on both the PC and 360. If money was not an issue and a game was multi-platform, I'd say PC. But there aren't as many PC platformers as console ones.Racing? Depends on the subtype, as I prefer GTR2 in every way to Forza. But my favorite racing game is on the 360.
Will I eventualy get used to it or is pc gaming less relaxed.
In general PC gaming is slightly less relaxed, though obviously some games are more ''casual'' on PCs and some games are more ''hardcore'' on consoles, depending on the game itself. I do lean back at my computer quite a bit, but not usually the case with fast-paced shooters, for example.

Unless you use an HDTV as a monitor and sit in a couch with the gamepad in your hands. My PC-chair is pretty bad and I love to play lengthy RPGs, it's not fun when you stand up after 6 hrs gaming marathon and feel back/shoulder-pains and that your ass has fallen asleep, lol. That and sitting close to a monitor all day really screws with your eyes after a while.

But i just find I can sit back with the pad on my lap and play compared to hunched forward with my hand all crooked over the keyboard.

It's easier to let the muscles relax and enjoy a game. On the other hand, one could argue that sitting closer to a PC-monitor, all focused and a little uptight might give you better and more intense gameplay. SystemShock2 is prime example of that. Man, I was on the edge when I played that game, I think a more relaxed position would've made the game less scary for me.
I'm really not much of a PC snob, but if you are a serious gamer PC is the best way to play games (most of my hardcore gamer friends own a good comp, 360 and wii). Sure its more expensive for upgrades, but online is free and better, games are cheaper and last longer, keyboard and mouse is superior in RTS FPS and RPG period.Thats not to say I don't like consoles, playing exclusives, racing, sports (I hate sports games too, I've only bought NHL97 on the PS) and they are superior for parties and playing with friends.
I'd agree, that's one of the reasons I prefer gaming on the PC, being closer to the monitor sucks me into the world I'm playing in and makes it a much more immersive experience. For more casual play on the PC, you could hook it up to your TV and use a wireless keyboard + trackball (this one is pricey, but as an example) from the couch for games where a controller just doesn't cut it.
Wow, I might get one of those one day. Playing PC-RPGs in my living-room with such a keyboard = no more sleepy ass. :) Thanx for the tip.
take a look at arthur79's banner - that's pc gaming for you! :D
definately PC, especially because you dislike sports games.
I really don't like telling people they should become PC gamers. I love PC gaming, but I've seen too many people get a decent rig, then 1 year later they are stuck w/ $1k messenger. If you like installing hardware, and messing w/ computers then PC is awesome, if you just want more out of your gaming experience it's not always a good idea. Most pc exclusive games are designed for PC minded people ready for a hardcore experience with lighting fast clicking, tons of research, and a dedicated mindset. It's very expensive to be a PC gamer wanting the new releases all the time. Most PC gamers have a few games they are dedicated to, and pretty much upgrade for those. If you want to keep up w/ the market all the time you either have to be fairly rich, or really up on hardware sales trends. For example when the new DX10 cards came out most people jumped on the 8800 for high end, but one of my friends got a 8600 instead hoping that the second set would be better and cheaper. By waiting and getting a 8800GT he saved about $250 with hardly any down time since he picked up a 8600 (which he resold). If you wanna make the jump to PC you should have games already in mind like Starcraft 2 for example. If you don't see a bunch of games on the PC that just blow you away then you might wanna stick to consoles instead of investing the cash into something that might be a fairweather hobby.
